Privacy Policy

HalalRishta ("we", "us") is a Muslim matrimonial service. We take your privacy seriously because the information you trust us with is intimate by nature — photos, faith, location, conversations. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, and the choices you have.

1. Information we collect

We only collect what we need to help you find a partner. That includes:

• Profile data — name, gender, date of birth, age, sect, religious practice, hometown, height, profession, education, marital intention, languages, and other matrimonial details you choose to share.
• Photos — your profile photo, additional photos, and the live-face verification selfie used to confirm you are a real person.
• Location — your approximate location (latitude and longitude) so we can show distance to nearby matches.
• Messages and voice notes — the content of chats, voice messages, and images you exchange with other users.
• Account data — email address, Firebase user ID, authentication provider (email/password or Google sign-in), and last-seen timestamps.
• Activity data — likes, passes, compliments sent and received, who has visited your profile, and reports made about you or by you.
• Device data — basic device info (OS, app version) for diagnostics. We do not run advertising or analytics trackers in the app.

2. How we use your information

• To create your account and let you sign in securely.
• To show you to potential matches and show matches to you.
• To verify that profiles belong to real people (via live face detection on your own device — the model never leaves your phone, only the resulting photo is uploaded).
• To deliver, sync, and receipt your chats and voice notes.
• To moderate the community — handle reports, ban abusive users, and remove fraudulent profiles.
• To enforce age limits (18+) and other safety rules required by law and by the App Store / Google Play.
• To communicate with you about account-level matters (e.g. verification outcomes, security alerts).

3. How we protect your information

Your data lives in Google's Firebase platform with industry- standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to production data is restricted to a small set of named operators and is audited. We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers.

That said, no system is perfectly secure. If we ever suffer a breach that affects your data, we'll tell you promptly and comply with the notification rules in your jurisdiction.

4. Who can see what

• Other verified users can see your public profile — name, photos, age, sect, religious practice, distance, bio, interests. They cannot see your email, exact coordinates, or contact info.
• People you swipe on can see whether you liked or passed them only after they match with you (mutual like). Pass decisions are private.
• Our moderators can access profile data when handling reports or verifying identity. All such access is logged.
• Third parties we rely on: Google Firebase (auth, database, hosting), Cloudinary (photo and voice-note storage), and Vercel (web hosting). These are infrastructure providers; they process data on our behalf, not for their own purposes.

5. Account deletion and data retention

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account. When you do, we permanently delete your profile, photos references, swipes, matches, conversations, voice notes, and the Firebase user record. This is not a soft-delete — once you confirm, your data is gone and cannot be recovered.

Some records may persist briefly in encrypted backups for up to 30 days before they are overwritten by routine backup rotation, after which they are unrecoverable.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have rights to access, correct, port, restrict the processing of, or erase your personal data. You can exercise any of these rights by emailing us at hello@halalrishtacanada.com. We respond within 30 days.

7. Children

HalalRishta is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. The app enforces this at sign-up via a date-of-birth gate, and again server-side. If you believe a minor has created an account, please email us and we will remove it immediately.

8. International users

Your data is processed in the regions where Firebase, Cloudinary, and Vercel operate (primarily the United States and the European Union). By using the app, you consent to your data being transferred to and processed in these regions.

9. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes we'll notify you in-app and update the "effective" date at the top of this page.
